Holly
2
lbs. now, suspect will be around 10 lbs.
Holly
is a VERY social and loving pup. Her foster mom has taken lots of
time and energy to ensure she is the best she can be. She interacts with
over 400 people (including lots of kids) every week, tons of other puppies
and a bazillion adult dogs. She is a rock star!
A
little bit about Holly: she is silly, active, quiet and full
of vigor. She is a treasure hunter! Socks, tissue, toys... you
name it she likes to steal them and take them to her bed. She is very
adventurous, willing to try any obstacle set in front of her. She is
outgoing and ready to take on the world. She is crate trained, currently
using a wee pad and knows her sit and come when called cue.

Eating
from food puzzles, like Kong's, teaches puppies to self soothe, slows down
eating and aids in digestion, increases focus and impulse control and fills
their natural desire to hunt. Win-Win... for everyone! Kong's... they are not
just for treats

Brought pups to work with me today. Clients have been having fun
naming the breeds… so far we have: Shih-Chi but I also like
Chih-Aht-Zu :-) LOL

Took all the pups to the yard today, they seemed to
like the cool grass and the warm sun. All are walking and running a bit.
The are getting so big!

Both of Olive’s
eyes are open today. Filbert and Holly are walking well, and not dragging
their belly’s on the ground.

Olive: 13 oz 5/8
Filbert: 11 oz ¾
Holly: 15 oz
Olive has the beginning
of one eye opening! Both Filbert and Holly are taking steps and they both
pee’d on their own! I get to sleep for 6 hours!

6/28
Both Filbert and
Holly’s eyes are fully open! All pups are strong, and doing very well.

6/26
Filbert is opening his
eyes!

He and Olive LOVE to sleep in their backs.
Holly is a brute, one strong puppy!

Once we get open eyes
and open ears, we can go to feeding every 4 to 5 hours… fingers crossed for
this weekend for all.
Pups do have to spend
LOTS of time a part. Still suckling on each other’s genitals. They get
to snuggle just after eating, since they are too full to want to do anything J
We have tried to find a
mamma dog, who is small herself with only a few pups to help. No luck.
Other rescues have mamma’s but the mamma is either too large or they have TONS
of pups, and these tiny ones would not stand a chance.

All three pups took a
bottle today! Dr. Monroe clearly has the magic hands J Bottle
feeding take a lot more time to do (its takes me about 10 minutes to feed
all 3 pups with a feeding tube, vs. 30to 40 min to bottle feed) but its
worth it to try to meet their emotional needs for nursing.

To Maplewood Animal
Hospital today for a checkup. All pups are doing well, lungs are
clear. We are SO tired… little to no sleep. Vet says keep up the
good work…

Filbert: 7 oz 3/4
Holly: 9 oz 3/8
We still try a bottle
every day, but no luck. Have to continue to tube feed (I place a tube in
their mouth to the stomach) Since they can’t nurse, they suckle
EVERYTHING… even each other’s genitals. We will have to separate them
soon.

I am very worried about
Olive. He abdomen is distended and she has not pooped in 5 hours. 7:00 pm
I am heading to the emergency hospital.
12 midnight, back
from the vet. They did x-rays and an enema. Lots of air in her abdomen.
Vet says we are tube feeding properly. But she is sucking air- probably at
feeding time. Lungs are clear. Whew…
Olive: 7 oz 3/4
Filbert: 7 oz 1/4
Holly: 8 oz 1/2

Pups are doing ok,
but won’t take a bottle. I will have to tube feed them. Weighing
them daily is essential. Neonatal pups should gain 10% of their body
weight per day. You have to keep track by weighing them every day at the
same time each day. Changing to logging in ounces.
Pups are fed every 2
hrs, yes… even in the middle of the night. Pups also cannot
regulate body temperature or pee/poo on their own. I have to stimulate
them with a cotton ball to go after every feeding.
Feedings are
5am
8am
10am
12noon
2pm
4pm

Pups to come home
today. Still doing great at the vet, mamma is nursing them all. Sure
wish we could keep mamma for a while, but not a possibility. Owner would
only surrender the pups, not the mamma and we certainly would not leave the pups
in her care. If you can’t prevent an 8 month old puppy from getting
pregnant…we can’t trust the pups in their care.
Theme will be
“trees” so they grow up BIG and strong
Filbert: 176 grams
Holly: 233 grams

Pups were born today,
via cesarean at Maplewood Animal Hospital. 3 pups, 2 girls and a boy.
All healthy. Mamma is doing well. Mamma is tiny, Only 4 lbs after
giving birth. Without this cesarean neither her or the pups would of
survived…thank you friends for life for stepping in and paying for the
surgery.

Got a call today,
Friends for Life Canine Scholarship Fund www.friendsforlifecsf.org
is financially assisting a young pup with an emergency cesarean section.
They need us to take the pups. Mamma and pups will be boarded at Maplewood
Animal Hospital for one week, but after that we will not have access to
the mamma. Looks like we are in store for some sleepless nights.
