Successful Other Small Breed Adoptions

(Adopted Sept.7/12)

Shaka (aka Jake)
Miniature Poodle
Male/neutered/shots current
14 lbs
9 years old
*sweet Jake had uncontrollable seizures, and nothing more could be done for him, he passed Feb.12/15*

Can you believe I didn't know what my name meant until I had a chance to sneak into the computer room and look it up? Shaka is the Hawaiian hand signal for "Hang Loose".  Hmmmmm, I'm not sure if that fits my personality or not. We need to discuss that once you make a decision about me.

First, of all, ignore my age. Nine years old isn't that old for we smaller breeds. If I was one of those bigger breed dogs, you could show a little concern for my age but not me!!! Foster mom says I act more like I'm three or four years old. You know that new saying for humans about 40 is the new 30? Don't believe it!!! Just ask some humans. But you can believe that I don't act my age. I will amaze you!

My mind is very sharp and I would like a human who is wanting to really challenge me mentally and physically. I will amaze you! Oh yeah, I already told you that, didn't I? If you slack off a bit on walks and playtime, I just might have to jump into your lap and look you in the eye and say "Look, human, we're in this together to stay active and healthy so let's get moving!!"  Now don't panic, I know when to settle down and I like to sleep as well as anyone but when it's awake time, there are things to do! By the way, I'd love to have a human who wanted me with them as much as possible. None of this shutting me in the house and you take off on adventures. There's a big wide world out there for me to see....WITH YOU!

Last, but not least, If children treat me nice, I'll treat them nice right back but Furbaby Rescue won't adopt to a home with younger children. Also, I haven't been cat tested yet by foster mom but if you own a cat and need to know, she'll test me and let you know.

Darling dog for a darling home, residing in Mt. Vernon, WA

(Adopted Sept.8/12)
Stella
Mini Dachshund
Female/spayed/shots current
9 years old

(look at my gorgeous dabble coat)

My gosh, someone just called me "Mella Stella" meaning I'm a mellow Doxie. Hey, I'll accept that if it means I get adopted. They also refer to me as gorgeous and yes, I am with all of my dapples. I'd be a bit more gorgeous if my new human helps me get just a bit of weight off and that could be fun if we take walks together.

Now here's my problem. How do I make someone understand that I'd be the perfect little gal for them? If I say I'm housebroken, would that do it? If I say I'm quiet and no one has heard me bark yet, would that help? I get along with other dogs and people so that's a plus isn't it? And then there's the sleeping issue. I like being on the bed with my human but I do stay outside of the covers so it's not like we're really sharing the bed, right?

Hey, it just occurred to me that I'm pretty close to being absolutely perfect. How's that? Better yet, I'll accept you if you're not quite perfect. *Doxie giggle* What do you think? Should we meet and should we do it soon?

Stella has wonderful new parents, residing in Tacoma, WA

(Adopted Sept.8/12)
Spunky
Pomeranian
Male/neutered/shots current
7 years old
10 lbs

Everyone who comes to the house falls immediately in love with this adorable little ball of fur.  Spunky has had a summer shave so he looks a little like a bear.

He is SO excited to see you.  He dances on his back feet and waves his front paws through the air.  When you come to him he runs in tiny circles with glee then grabs a toy and starts playing with it unless it’s time to go outside for potty.   He really loves his meals, too.  If dinner is late he lets us know that we are off our schedule.

Spunky is a kick and he’s so much fun to run around with.  He has adapted to both city and rural life and looks forward to his next adventure.

Sometimes he can be a little possessive of a spot but he will move just by your calling him away so that’s pretty easy.  He sleeps in a crate at night and enjoys more freedom during the day.  He gets along with other dogs and seems friendly to everyone.

Residing happily in Bellingham, WA

(Adopted Sept.9/12)
Louis
Dachshund mix (possibly Miniature Pinscher)
Male/neutered/shots current
12 months old

Louis is about one year old and an energetic, full of life puppy that loves to play with other dogs, children and adults. He is a fully neutered boy dog that recently had his two back dew claws fixed.

He loves to snuggle with a blanket in your lap and burry his head under the covers and nap. He has been in a crate and is used to sleeping in one. He is potty trained for the most part, but you must be on top of it and take him outside regularly.

We love Louis and any family with children or without would be blessed by having Louie as a part of their family.

Residing in Surrey, B.C. Canada with his new Dad, and sister

(Adopted Sept.15/12)

(Adopted Sept.13/12)
Murphy
Yorkshire Terrier
Male/neutered/shots current
5 years old
10 lbs

Murphy's theme song would be "Hopelessly Devoted to You".  He wants to be the center of someone's universe and if he is, he will reward you with snuggles, kisses and sharing his play toys.  He is a bit of an outdoorsman in that he loves to find small or large branches in the yard and appropriate them for toys.  His favorite is one he found last winter that is three times as long as he is. His favorite treat is a bit of cooked chicken.  He loves plush toys and will chew on the squeaker until it quits working.  Don't let his shyness fool you.  This little guy has a heart of gold.
He does great with other dogs, but he would be happiest as an only dog, so he can absorb all your love and attention.

Residing in Vancouver, B.C. Canada

(Adopted Sept.15/12)

Rico
Chihuahua
Male/neutered/shots current
8 lbs
4 years old

Howdy!  My name is Rico. I am a very sweet, loving Chihuahua looking for a forever home.  I am a nice active guy, and enjoy other little dogs, I am a good wrestler!- toys are my thing too! Balls, Balls, Balls! I also like to dance a bit too! I am super smart.

I don’t enjoy car rides, so I hope that is not much on the agenda.  I prefer to go on walks, hang out in the park and have fun.

Overall I am pretty easy going- let’s make a date to meet!

Foster failure, the home loved this boy so much, they wanted to adopt him, so now residing in New Castle, WA

(Adopted Sept.18/12)
Snookie (nka Ivy-Kate)
Yorkie/Maltese ?
Female/spayed/shots current
4 years old

Snookie looks very sweet and demure but if you look closely you will see a little twinkle in her eye.  It’s not a twinkle of mischief but certainly hints at the intelligence and creativity going on in her mind.

She is a whole lot of fun in a petite package.  She has long athletic legs which she uses for running, jumping, and maintaining stamina on long walks.

She appears to be potty trained, she’s fine in the car, probably shouldn’t  be in a home with cats which are at the center of the household, and she would drive a mellow or standoffish dog a bit nuts because she does like to play.

She’s a really nice little girl.  She is vocal, that is her breed, and if she can’t be near you she will bark.  While she gets along very nicely with male dogs, she should not be with an alpha female because she is assertive and will stick up for herself.  She is being fostered in a home with one female dog and they usually keep to their own section of the property and don’t mix too often.

Snookie  will be spayed on 9/17/12.  She will need a dental after her spay suture has healed and we are sure there is no infection.  She will be having dental X rays at the time of her spay so we will know ahead of time what kind of dental procedure she will need (scaling and polishing only or extractions).  Because we don’t like to introduce bacteria into the system via a dental while a body cavity is opened up, her spay will occur first and then the dental.  If a potential adopter does not live within a reasonable distance from Snookie’s veterinarian, she can take her X rays with her to her new vet, have her dental there,  and the procedure will be paid for.

Snookie is anxious to be loved and in her own home and we would not want to postpone her adoption when such a simple solution is available.

This is a dog who wants to be your best friend.  She is not clingy and does go off on her own but for the most part she will spend her time with her human family.  We do not feel that she needs to be in a home with another dog unless the family works all day.  She might get lonely

She is very responsive to commands, though hasn’t had formal training to our knowledge.  If an adopter would enjoy going through training with Snookie, they can do so on a scholarship for positive reinforcement training classes courtesy of a program offered through Friends For Life.  The scholarship is not restricted to a particular facility so depending on where you live; there is likely a compatible trainer nearby.

If interested in Snookie she would love to meet you, take you for a walk or run, and let you get acquainted to see if it might be a good match for both.

Totally spoiled by her Mom, residing in Bellingham, WA

(Adopted Sept.18/12)
Rupert
Pug
Male/neutered/shots current
12 month old "puppy"

Yee Ha!  I’m Rupert.  Very excited to meet you.  Like all pugs I am a total clown, silly, goofy but over all good dog.  I am potty trained, crate trained and am good with other dogs and people. I am still just a puppy, so I will need you to sign me up for a reward based obedience class in your area prior to adoption.  I am looking for an active home where I can get lots of attention so I can be the best dog I can be.  I like balls, chewies and playing with friends.  Are you a couch potato?  Well I am NOT the dog for you!  I wanna play and run and have a good time!

Residing in Port Coquitlam, WA

(Adopted Sept.19/12)
Cotton
Chihuahua
Male/neutered/shots current
4 years old
5 lbs

Cotton is an AKC registered pure bred Chihuahua.  He is ADORABLE to say the least.  He is social with people and small dogs… but a home without big dogs is a must, they are just not for him!  He is very playful ( LOVES TOYS and BALLS) he enjoys walks and snuggling. He uses his potty pads or will use a size appropriate doggie door.. what a guy!

He goes to doggie day care at Upscale Puppy once a week and is a joy to care for,  says owner Lupita.  www.upscalepuppy.com

His ideal home would be a quiet home,  alone or with another small dog.  Maybe even travel a bit?  He is a great dog,  looking for a new forever home

My new Mommy flew all the way here to come and meet and fall in love with me, residing in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada

(Adopted Sept.22/12)
Muffin
Yorkshire Terrier
Female/spayed/ shots current
1 year old
8 lbs

Hello, my name is Muffin.  I am sometimes called “Muffie” but I prefer and am very responsive to my full given name.

I am sweet, gentle, quiet, affectionate, easy going, and loving.

I was moved into a huge foster home with a lot of dogs, kids, and cats and it’s pretty overwhelming for me.  It’s a lot of space, noise, and activity.  I am lucky because I get to have a bedroom all to myself with a very nice man and I have my own private outdoor play area.

I’m used to spending a lot of time in a crate with a cloth draped over me at night.  My foster family brought me right into bed with them and I was very concerned about this.  I jumped down.  They picked me back up and tried to make me feel comfortable there and I jumped down again.  I’m not sure what I thought might happen but eventually I was held and stroked and I snuggled right in and fell asleep.  It was wonderful.

It’s pretty scary to be in a new place with new everything but for a first night that was pretty great.  I arrived Sunday evening  September 17th.

I am not spayed yet but will be my first week and then I’ll be ready to go to my new forever home.  I am housebroken, I have excellent house manners, and I’m a little shy.

Update on Muffin

9/19/12

“Hi everyone!  If you have been watching and waiting for me to get through my spay, I’m here to tell you that it’s done and I’m back in my foster home doing fabulously.  Of course I have to wear this annoying cone so I don’t pull my stitches out.  I’m ready to go so start filling out those applications!”

Muffy has great new home residing in Snohomish, WA
